Bayr Ny Skeddon (The Herring Trail) is a 14 mile route from Castletown in the south of the island to Peel in the west. It is based on the route Manx fishermen once took as they journeyed between the two ports.

Route Description

The route from the south initially follows the Millennium Way along the Silverburn river to Ballasalla and Rushen Abbey before heading north west towards South Barrule (the summit of which, somwhat oddly, is not visited by the trail).

After passing Glen Rushen & Glen Mooar the route reaches the village of Glen Maye where it turns to the west coast then heads north to join the coastal path towards Peel.

The final part of the journey meets and follows the former Douglas to Peel Railway line at Glenfaba which now forms part of the Heritage Trail.
