Help:Discussion Pages

From ManxWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Every article page has a Discussion page attached to it, this is for any User Comments relating to that specific article.

For User Discussion pages and disputes see Help:ContactUser.

Contents

What goes here?

Acceptable comments include questions and answers, observations and additions of a nostalgic nature.

Formatting

Comments added to Discussion Pages should be made in a common sense and linear fashion. Opening comments should start with a ==Level 2 Title== with responses placed below. All questions, answers and comments should be signed off using four tildes (~~~~) as this automatically inserts the User name and a time/date stamp.

Look through any existing comments first before adding to the page. By using headings a Table of Contents will be generated to aid navigation through tha page.

Using a colon ( : ) at the beginning of lines will indent the text to maintain a tidy layout. Don't overuse them, after 2 or 3 lines with increasing colons revert back to no colon then add one per line again and so on.

Example

If you wonder why the Summerland article mentioned Derby Castle but there wasn't a Derby Castle page:

==Derby Castle name?==
Why is Summerland sometimes called Derby Castle? ~~~~~
:Because of the castle that occupied the site, it belonged to the Derby family. ~~~~
Does anyone have a link to an image of the castle? ~~~~
:Yes, there are a couple on
[http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/towns/douglas/dcastle.htm ManxNotebook]

would appear as:

Derby Castle Name?

Why is Summerland sometimes called Derby Castle? MarkAtherton 15:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Because of the castle that occupied the site, it belonged to the Derby family. MarkAtherton 15:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Does anyone have a link to an image of the castle? MarkAtherton 12:19, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there are a couple on ManxNotebook

Note: The link in this example is unsigned by 4 tildes (~~~~)in the code so appears without the Username and date stamp, Comments should be signed off.

All pages include a tick box marked 'Watch this page' just above the "Save" button. Use this to monitor subsequent changes that may include answers to your questions and comments. You can view all your Watched pages using the link at the top of pages as long as you are loged in.
