Permisions
ManxWiki has permissions set up so that only registered users are able to edit articles and upload files. Only those who are signed in can see the edit links.
Opening the edit box and making changes has no effect on the article unless you click the 'Save' button. You can therefore make any changes that are required, then preview your changes before they are saved and made public.
Method 1
Click the 'edit' tab at the top of each page.
This opens the text box which will contain the whole article page.
Method 2
Click the 'edit' link that appears to the right of headings. (Headings automatically divide articles into sections).
This opens the text box with only the contents of that section.
Previewing and Saving Edits
Previewing
While making edits and before saving you should preview your changes.
Read through your edit and check spellings and syntax. The edit box is still available under the preview so you can scroll down and either make changes or save the changes.
The Show changes button opens a preview with 2 columns, the original text and your edits so that you can see where changes have been placed.
Saving
Whilst not compulsory, it is requested that a brief summary of the edit is recorded in the indicated space. Minor edits are changes to syntax or corrections of spellings etc. where the text of the article remains as it was.
All edits appear on the Recent Changes page and are attributted to the user with date and time.
Repairing Vandalism
It is requested that all Users keep an eye open for vandalism and take appropriate action if it is encountered.
If you find examples of vandalism, either edit it out or click the history tab at the top of the page to revert the page to a previous 'clean' version.
This opens a page showing all edits to date with clickable buttons that allow you to compare versions of the page side by side.
Click the Compare Selected Versions to reopen the article with a 2 column version comparison preceding the current main article. The older selected version appears on the left and the newer version is on the right. If these are not the versions you are seeking click the older or newer links to move forward or backward in time. You can edit or undo the unwanted version.
Vandalised and unwanted contributions are still viewable in the history. Please notify Administrators of vandalism with a link to the article.
