The Majestic Hotel, Onchan, was one of a number of buildings designed by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, built in 1892/3.

Originally a private residence named "View Park Mansion", it was in 1922 that it had been extended to offer 95 bedrooms, renamed "Hotel Majestic" and opened to paying guests.

By the 1930's the hotel owners were struggling financially and there were numerous stories circulating about new owners and redevelopments.

During the winter of 1934/5 the open air swimming pool was added and the name changed again to the "Majestic Lido Hotel". By 1937 the hotel had increased its accomodation to 200 bedrooms.

During World War 2 the hotel was aquisitioned and used as a military hospital, returning to hotel status as the "Majestic Hotel" in 1947.

The Hotel was one of the Island's leading hotels, occupying an extensive coastal site affording views across Douglas Bay and the Irish Sea towards England.

The hotel closed at the end of the summer season, 1987 although for some years after that it was home to weekly auctions while a new owner was sought.

Despite protests, including representation from Charles, Prince of Wales, the Majestic was removed from the list of Registered Buildings in September 1998 and subsequently demolished to make way for "Majestic Appartments".
