Snaefell

Snaefell (Manx: Sniaull) , meaning "Snow Mountain" is the Island's only mountain at a height of 2,036 feet (621m) above sea level. The summit is marked by a 4 feet high concrete pillar known as a triangulation point.

On a particularly clear day you can see "the six kingdoms" (Mann, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Heaven), however some versions add a seventh "kingdom", Neptune (the sea).

Mountain Railway

The Snaefell Mountain Railway, built in six months over the winter of 1894/5, is a four mile track running from the village of Laxey to the summit with an intermediate stop at the location of the former Bunglaow Hotel during the spring and summer.

Hotel

The Snaefell Summit Hotel is a seasonal café and visitor centre. The building is owned by the Department of Tourism and Leisure and the café is operated on an annual lease.

Communications

The aerials and masts on the summit are operated/maintained by local radio stations, the BBC and the Civil Aviation Authority.
